Holy Cross News - May 2008
Despite the fact that unseasonable snowflakes are falling as I write, Easter has well and truly passed and we enter the month of May with the risen Christ as our companion. We thank all who shared in the Lent lunches this year; over £230 was raised for our charities.
We congratulate Daphne Sutton on having reached her 90th birthday recently. God bless you, Daphne. Holy Cross Fellowship has resumed occasional meetings, which will be announced as appropriate.
Christian Aid Week, May 11th – 17th, will soon be upon us. We are very short of collectors this year and may have to leave out a whole estate. If anyone could help, or knows of anyone who would be willing to help in however small a way, please, please contact me, Anne, in the first instance, on 268464. There is still time to offer!
We are also mindful of our Jubilee celebrations in September and are anxious that our church should look as smart as possible for the summer’s events. To this end we plan to have a GRAND SPRING CLEAN from Tuesday to Saturday May 6 – 10, working from 2 – 4ish each afternoon. All helpers will be welcome. Please come any afternoon/s you can spare, bringing your own cleaning materials with you. There will be a cuppa provided to cheer the workers on their way!
An interregnum is a strange time – a hiatus, a time to draw breath and pray – first for Brian and Una as they settle into their new home, that they may enjoy many happy years there, and second for Brian’s successor (who may have been appointed by the time you read this) that God may be preparing him/her for their ministry in Hythe, and for each of us, that we may be open to the new things that will surely lie ahead with the change of minister.
Best wishes from Anne Tolputt.
Holy Cross News - April 2008
Once again we have to say ‘Adieu’ to our Vicar. Goodbye seems to imply gone for good, but we hope that there will be times when we can meet again, hopefully before Heaven!
Lent has passed, and the glorious resurrection taken place. What a wonderful time is Easter, to start with sadness and finish with joy. So much of running Parish affairs lies with the PCC now, so we will keep them in our prayers.
Holy Cross has a congregation, which we regard as family, and welcome all who come to our Services and events.
We are so blessed to have the Rev. Richard and Sylvia, also Rev. Tony and Beryl Coombe as part of our family, and not forgetting Rev. Pam Clark.
We offer our congratulations to Jacky Moull on her licensing as an A.L.M. and assure her of our love and prayers in her new role.
Some may wonder how Holy Cross decides on what events take place. Our working party is open to all members of the congregation. Suggestions are discussed and agreed, or not. All decisions are then passed onto the Vicar and PCC for approval.
Holy Cross Fellowship is busy putting together programmes, so watch this space for more details.
Enjoy your gardens and spring flowers and hopefully lots of good weather.
With love

Holy Cross News - March 2008
May I start by wishing all our readers a very Happy Easter. Although it is earlier than usual this year, we have been blest by comparatively mild weather, which has lulled nature into producing Spring growth and colours far earlier than we normally see. We marvel at the way such delicate looking flowers force their way through cold hard soil to bring joy to all our hearts – what human could “manufacture” such objects of beauty to emerge from 12 months underground? What better example of the power of our God.
February was quite a busy month with Lent lunches and the Lent courses running parallel and also the very successful Women’s Breakfast.
During March we shall be celebrating not only Christ’s crucifixion but his rising from the dead, God’s sign that he loved us all so much that he was willing to sacrifice his son so that we could have everlasting life.
This year will also see the 50th anniversary celebrations of the building of Holy Cross. Please watch the weekly sheets for dates of events to support these celebrations, to which you are all welcome. Our congregation numbers are regular and faithful – they may not be as numerous as 50 years ago but the message purveyed is equally as faithful and regular. God’s love is ever present irrespective of the numbers who worship.
This month is also the time when we say “au revoir” to Brian and Una as they step into (or should it be run into) retirement from God’s work and their Ministry in Hythe. Our sincere good wishes go with them for a long, happy and healthy retirement. God Bless you both.
With Christian love
