FRIENDS OF ST LEONARD'S CHURCH
The Friends of St Leonard’s, a charitable association that assists the preservation and maintenance of the fabric of the church building, organises a series of concerts each year to help raise funds for this worthy endeavour. In 2007, this included performances by visiting choirs, eminent organists and young professional musicians. It also featured two marvellous performances of
Noye’s Fludde, Benjamin Britten’s opera for children and adults. This major activity for the children (and teachers!) of the local Hythe Bay Church of England Primary School, together with the support of some professional musicians and under the direction of the Director of Music at St Leonard’s, was a tremendous and most beneficial exercise involving the church within the community.
The Friends’ programme of concerts for 2008 will provide the usual stimulating mixture of major choral works performed by local choirs, stunning recitals by young musicians from the London music colleges, organ recitals and much more. Perhaps the highlight of the year will be a feast of music (including jazz bands!) at St Leonard’s during the Hythe Festival week, 5-13 July. Further information can be obtained from the Church Director of Music or the Secretary of the
Friends of St Leonard’s.
